The Japanese are quite fond of seasonal activities, such as picnicking (or getting drunk) under cherry blossom trees, making a trip to a place to see fall leaves, holding and going to summer festivals, etc. etc. In the winter, the season activity of a non-sports nature is going to see what they call, “ILLUMINATION!” We went to this place that took way too long to get, paid way too much money, to see a lot of little lights. It was kind of cool, I guess. Perhaps the best thing was the free foot hot spring being piped over this big boulder:
