CP Chronicles

Picture this! You walk into Conservatory Prep and instead of seeing students listening to a teacher boring the kids with lectures of various lessons; you see laptops all around the room with a variety of students working on them. That’s not all there is! You may also see someone rehearsing a monologue, or students playing different instruments like guitar, piano, and violin, and even a person drawing a masterpiece. These talents wouldn’t be accomplished without artistic teachers guiding them step-by-step.
There are several electives you can choose at Conservatory Prep, such as STOMP, Drama, Improv, Art, Tennis, Garage Band, Piano, Voice, Fashion Design, and many more! If the electives don’t entertain you, the clubs sure will! From Thespians to Latin Club, there are wide varieties to pick from.
Without the help of our teachers, we wouldn’t be able to achieve anything. For garage band and guitar, we are lucky to have Yoni Levitan, who has appeared on MTV. Art classes and technical theatre are taught by Tyler Smith, who has worked for Nickelodeon Studios. For STOMP and violin, we have Nicole Yarling, who has worked with musician Jimmy Buffett. There’s also drama teacher Janet Erlick, who worked on the “Bridge from Me to You and the Arts Infusion Program.” For Latin classes, we have John Kucinski, who is an award-winning SAT instructor. Last but not least, we have Improv teacher Ed Zeltner, who has appeared in numerous commercials. Where could we be without them?
We have been working on lots of stuff in each class. In drama, we’ve been learning different personality styles and how to act them. In art class, we’ve been learning how to draw animal skulls. In piano, violin, voice, and guitar, we’ve been learning and practicing the notes out of these instruments. Tennis has been a real workout lately, and students have been grouping together to create the school’s greatest bands.
That sums up the electives, but what about the actual classes?  As you all probably know, most of our classes are done with UMOHS, but for Latin and Math there is a different story. Mr. Kucinski, more affectionatley Mr. K, teaches these onsite courses. He attended Harvard and Brown, so we are extremely fortunate to have him and his knowledge in our school!
That’s All Folks!
