CALL for SUBMISSION: CLOSED ON JANUARY 15TH, 2008

On May 6th through the 9th, the Faculty of Biosocial Sciences and School of Public Health of the University of Puerto Rico at the Medical Sciences Campus in San Juan will host the III Ibero American Congress on Qualitative Health Research. 

As the two previous congresses held in Madrid (2005) and Guadalajara, Mexico (2003), the III Iberoamerican Congress will be an opportunity to continue and expand the exchange and collaboration among those who, departing from various sub-disciplines related to health, social and human sciences as a starting point, seek to do science around health and disease and its treatment from a qualitative perspective and relevant to the health and social characteristics of the Region.

We invite scientist, experts in all practical and educational areas relative to health, social and human sciences with common interests in health care and health promotion, to take part in the III Ibero-American Congress on Qualitative Health Research in San Juan, 2008.

We hope to see you in person, on May 2008, in San Juan, Puerto Rico.

Objectives of the III Ibero -American Congress, San Juan 2008

The minimum objectives of the III Ibero-American Congress are the following:

•	To foster an opportunity to pursue and widen the exchange, networking, collaboration, and training among heatlh and social researchers and professionals doing qualitative heatlh research in the Region.

•	To foster the coordination of existing efforts in the Ibero-American Region and the Caribbean regarding:  training and teaching on qualitative research; improvement of quality research, its wide dissemination and its impact on health programs and policies.

•	To improve the development and application of qualitative research on health, educational and scientific fields where it is merely known or poorly valued.

TOPICS and MODALITIES of PARTICIPATION

The 2008 Congress aims to have an extensive participation of traditions, disciplines, topics, queries and methods of inquiry, and analysis on health care and its promotion in the Region from a qualitative perspective. The various modalities of participation in the scientific program are the following:

1.	Symposia or Special Sessions (consist of a 120 minutes session focus on discussion of a particular topic with no more than 3-4 presentations, a moderator-organizer and ample time alloted for discussion).  Proposals on this category must include:  title, brief introduction (max. of 100 words) and educational objectives of the symposium.  Title and abstract of each presentation (max. of 300 words); a brief biography of each participant, including the person who organizes and that will chair the session should be included in the submission.
2.	Individual papers:  Title and abstract (max. of 300 words); a brief biography (max. of 100 words) of the authors; institutional affiliation, mailing and email addresses and telephone number of the moderator, audio-visual equipment requirements. Preferences for presentation:  oral (15 mins.) or poster.  The Scientific Committee will organize the accepted proposals in Round Table or Poster Sessions.
3.	Plenary Sessions (These are jointly organized by the international and local scientific committees.)
4.	The Scientific Committee will consider including other categories of participation such as, book presentations or video, film, photography - exhibitions, and proposal for exhibition of hardware or software related to qualitative research are welcome.  Submissions for Pre- Congress workshops (May 6) are also welcome. Please, contact the Congress Secretariat to discuss your proposal.

Further Information:
Proposals in Spanish, Portuguese and English will be accepted. The simultaneous translation of Congress activities is not guaranteed.  Presenter and organizers of Simposia must registered in the Congress.
