This Web site contains sound files of interviews at the Ninth Great Obituary Writers Conference at Alfred University in Alfred, N.Y., June 14-16, 2007. You will hear Jim Sheeler, the author of obit and winner of the Pulitzer Prize for features in 2006, and Marilyn Johnson, author of The Dead Beat. Recorded right after the conference is Jim Nicholson, who won the first Distinguished Writing Award for obituaries given by the American Society of Newspaper Editors in 1986.
Interviewed but not podcast because your incompetent instructor inexplicably deleted their audio files were Alana Baranick, principal author of Life on the Death Beat and winner of the 2005 ASNE award for obituary writing, and Stephen Miller, who contributed to Life on the Death Beat. Carl Hiaasen, author of Basket Case, is not recorded, unless he unexpectedly joins us before Aug. 17.
Other podcasts may be added before the end of the summer session, but remember that the nature of blogs/podcasts dictates that the most recent entries appear first in the Archive.
