What I do...
I design immersive, trans-disciplinary, and interactive spaces informed by 14 years worth of creating original work for experimental puppetry and object theater. My work is based on themes of complex ecologies and the ways in which humans relate to nature, both physically through land use and the built environment, as well as symbolically through folklore and romanticism.

My work evokes narrative, transformation, character, semiotics, and symbolism within the stage of the built environment by using a vast vocabulary of kinetic objects.

I see the built environment as part of a ‘design ecology’, or the vast, interconnected system of ideas and products dedicated to the frantic service of humanity’s wants and needs. This design ecology, both precarious and sublime in its inseparable relationship to nature, requires thoughtful and publicly accessible artistic interpretation and engagement.

In as much as my work is heavily inspired by the challenges of human and ecological sustainability, I interpret the core values of ‘sustainability’ as just a timely rediscovery of common-sense wisdoms toward how to be mature, proactive adults in a chaotic and heavily anthropogenic world.

Where these wisdoms lend themselves to be elegantly articulated through the process and results of public art-making, this is where I have set up shop.
Photo above: Monk Parrots have infiltrated Brooklyn, NY since the 1960s when several captive individuals escaped a shipping container at JFK airport. Left to survive in the cold north-east winters, they ingeniously began building their nests next to power line transformers, taking advantage of an otherwise wasted ambient heat source. Their nests are actually agglomerations of apartments for several families of parrots to live communally, with up to 50 tenants. I take this species’ story in Brooklyn as an adaptive inspiration for ‘green design.’ Photo: C M Green

My work is grounded in creating content through teamwork and interdisciplinary research with architects, planners, ecologists, archeologists, educators, and museum professionals. I want my work to support public discourse about human ecology, pushing for a socially affective pragmatism within art. I have enjoyed developing content-rich projects with a wide variety of clients from Olson Sundberg Kundig Allen Architects to Disney Imagineering as well as community-led groups and nonprofits around the world.
I am looking for partners who are interested in creating challenging projects that expand on their own core missions in new, interesting, and collaborative ways.
