The Downey Folk Music Jam is the brain child of Bea and Jim Romano, to bring a little music into Southeast Los Angeles County. The result is that players come from as far as the San Fernando Valley and central Orange County, and occasionally even further.
Although called a “folk jam,” we tend to play everything from Celtic to traditional to folk to old time to country-western to even more contemporary music. Basically we play anything.
The Downey Folk Music Jam takes place every 4th Tuesday evening (6:00-8:45) at the Barbara J. Riley Center, in Downey, California. Acoustic instrument players of all types and abilities are welcome, as are guests.
The Barbara J. Riley Center is at 7810 Quill Drive, on the southeast corner of Quill Drive and Rives Avenue, part of the City of Downey’s Apollo Park. It is also nearby the Rancho Los Amigos National Rehabilitation Hospital. The Riley Center is one block NNW of the major cross streets of Imperial Highway and Paramount Boulevard.
