‘Karim Kadum’ 
This article, which appeared in the Liberal magazine in 2007, tells the extraordinary story of Karim Kadum, a soldier imprisoned by the Ba’athist for possessing Nabeel’s six line poem ‘In Camera’. Kadum escaped several years into his ten year sentence in Iraq’s most notorious military jail and fled into exile. Now in Germany he has made contact with Nabeel. ‘Poetry to the people’ Brother Yasin Again was Nabeel Yasin’s broken response to the years spent in exile away from his family and his people. 1,000 copies were printed through a small London publishing house and passed throughout London’s Arab community. Yet, secretly and by word of mouth, Brother Yasin Again began a journey of its own, back into Iraq. ‘Saddam the romancier’. This article first appeared in the UK monthly magazine Prospect in the summer of 2004.  It told the extraordinary story of the former Iraqi dictators’ literary pretensions as he wrote a series of romantic novels, published in Iraq and foisted on the people.
