Island Alpine guides Avalanche Courses are taught to Canadian Avalanche Center Standards using CAC curriculum. In addition Jan and Cliff are active ACMG guides & CAA ITP Level II graduates with nearly 25 years of heli-ski and Ski Tour guiding between them meaning that you get a lot of experience along with your theory on these courses!

This introductory avalanche course is for individuals with little to no avalanche related experience. Students will learn to recognize avalanche terrain, gain the skills to initiate and manage a self rescue, have a basic understanding of how weather contributes to avalanche hazard, be able to understand and interpret avalanche bulletins and the hazard scale, be able to interpret and utilize the Avaluator card and learn basic analysis of layers in the snowpack. This is a two day course with one evening session.
Included in the price: Instructor, text book, Avaluator, use of transceiver, shovel, probe, industry recognized certificate of completion.
Not included in the price: Transportation, food, accommodation and personal clothing and equipment (list supplied on booking). Transport, food and accommodation logistics are the responsibility of participants. We are happy to assist with suggestions and coordination
Avalanche Skills Training Two (AST2)

This advanced avalanche course takes a closer look at how avalanches form and how to manage more complex terrain. We take a closer look into the snowpack and learn how to apply different tests to help gain an understanding of snow stability and strength. Transceiver training moves into the realm of multi beacon searches and how to solve these sometimes complex searches. A basic avalanche course is required as a pre-requisite for this course. Participants should be intermediate skiers as there are usually many ascents and descents. This is a three day course with two evening sessions.
Included in the price: Instructor, 3 nights accommodation, one ride tickets. text book, Avaluator, use of transceiver, shovel, probe, industry recognized certificate of completion.

Avalanche 1 day refresher
Dates: TBA for 2007/2008 season.
Price: $110 per person
Many people tell us that they took and avalanche course some time ago but really feel that they need refreshing. This demand spawned the 1 day refresher. Dust the cobwebs from your mind by reviewing all of the most important aspects of our full avalanche training courses including a full rescue scenario.
