Claude believes service to community is an honor and a privilege. For eleven years he has worked with others to meet the needs of all residents of The Woodlands. He communicates daily with residents and seeks their input through a website at: www.ClaudeHunter.com
Claude uses resident input and relationships developed to achieve resident needs. Claude is a full-time volunteer and has no affiliation with any company doing business in The Woodlands, except for the non-profit corporations that comprise our Woodlands governance.
Since 1997, Claude has attended essentially all meetings of the two resident associations and their joint meetings, association budget meetings, Alden Bridge Village Association meetings and meetings of the Development Review Committee. He also frequently attends meetings of other Village Associations, Woodlands Municipal Utility Districts, The Woodlands Joint Powers Authority and Legislative sessions in Austin, Texas. For many years, as an ex-officio member of the South County Woodlands Chamber of Commerce, Claude represents residents and businesses of The Woodlands at many Chamber functions, including ribbon cuttings for new businesses in our area. He has participated in many biannual statewide meetings of the Association of Water Board Directors to learn and stay current on new technologies and means of better handling of water supply, waste water and drainage issues. Claude has served as an elected Director serving all of the population and businesses of The Woodlands on five major Boards and serves on The Woodlands Association Board serving all residents and businesses in newer villages, Claude believes that being familiar with our governance and/or participating full time is part of his responsibility to those he is privileged to represent. In preparation for our future of self governance, he believes he must remain familiar with all aspects of our present governance.
Claude has been an active participant in the planning process for our future governance since 1999. He actively supported legislation in 1999 through 2005 that would have allowed The Woodlands to simply vote to escape the extraterritorial jurisdiction of Houston and Conroe. It became evident that such legislation was not likely to pass since essentially every city in Texas, and legislators who represented those constituents, opposed such laws. Heeding input from residents and advice from local legislators, a different approach was passed almost unanimously during the 1997 legislative session and was further refined in the 1999 session. That legislation is the basis for our success in having an opportunity to form our own local government, without threat of future annexation.
Claude believes strongly that the residents of The Woodlands should vote to determine their own future permanent form of government as soon as allowed by existing agreements with Houston and Conroe. He continues to work for the successul transition to a true government of, by and for the people.
