Thanks to 24 hour media coverage from around the world, the link between politics and the visual image is now obvious to all of us. But it was much less so, to me at least, when I was first bitten by the travel bug. I was intially reluctant to pick up a camera for fear that the lens would narrow my vision of the world around me. But I soon realised the complementarity of photography and incisive analysis, ie looking at the subject from a range of angles to capture its essence.

For all that, I have tended to shy away from political subjects in my photography, concentrating instead of my other loves of wildlife and landscape.

As a result, this website, by focusing on our natural environment and global politics, should perhaps be subtitled "beauty and the beast".
