On the first Sunday of June 1994 Dolly Varden made their first major radio appearance on Q101’s Local Music Showcase broadcast on WKQX 101.1 FM in Chicago. The show includes a handful of slightly stripped down, but still full band, renditions of songs that were staples of their live shows. During the interview segments we also get to hear a little about the band’s beginnings from the band members themselves.

02. You’ll Make a Great Worm - A great spare arrangement of the track that appears on the “Pet Me” cassette sung by Diane.
03. Here to Help - this is a song that has not appeared on the Varden Vault until now. It is a mid-tempo rocker with an infectious vocal introduction. This sparser arrangement only hints at the song’s great potential. We’ll find a fuller arrangement in a live show on a future entry in the vault that will do justice to this great tune. The band did lay down a studio version of this song engineered by Doug McBride @ Gravity Studios, but unfortunately we have not been able to track down a flawless copy of that yet.
05. Scary Pretty - a nice stripped-down version of this Diane song.
06. Plain - it is great to hear this classic Diane song done in a stripped-down arrangement.
