 Consuelo Jimenez Underwood is a contemporary Latina fiber artist who has exhibited her work nationally and internationally. Her weavings and textile/fiber artworks express Consuelo’s political/social viewpoints and commentaries. In various works, Consuelo modernizes her textiles by including other media such as gold, barbed wire, caution tape and silk screening on images.   A Professor in the School of Art & Design at San Jose State University in California for more than twenty years, she has also lectured and consulted throughout her academic career. Her work is included in the permanent collections of the Smithsonian Art Museum, The Mexican Museum, The Museum of Art & Design, NY, and the National Hispanic Center in Albuquerque, NM.
