Consuelo Jimenez Underwood is a contemporary Latina fiber artist who has exhibited her work nationally and internationally. Her weavings and textile/fiber artworks express Consuelo’s political/social viewpoints and commentaries. In various works, Consuelo modernizes her textiles by including other media such as gold, barbed wire, caution tape and silk screening on images. A Professor in the School of Art & Design at San Jose State University in California for more than twenty years, she has also lectured and consulted throughout her academic career.
