Hexagon Quilt Tutorial

Step 4: Continue adding petals, moving around the flower center, once center is completely surrounded, cut the stitches that attach the paper to the fabric, and remove paper. Continue to sew up the sides.
Step 1: Pick out some fabric, as much or as little as you like depending on the size you want to make, and cut out your hexagons- make sure there is a 1/4” seam allowance on all sides. Pin paper to wrong side of fabric. I STRONGLY suggest a rotary cutter and making stacks- it makes cutting go MUCH faster!
I’ve had many requests for a pattern for the hexagon quilt on the home page, and since it really isn’t something that needs a pattern, just a little direction, I thought it would be fun to post on here. ENJOY!
Before you begin: Check with your local quilt store to see if they carry hexagon paper pieces, or find here them at paperpieces.com. I used the 1-1/2” hexagons, but you can use any size you like!
Step 2: Fold fabric over and use large stitches to attach fabric to paper.
Step 3: Place hexagons right sides together, starting with flower center and stitch up one side
Step 5: You now have one finished flower- make a bunch more! Once you have several flowers completed, you will stitch them together with one border (mine is turquoise) in between each flower as shown below. For fun, throw in the occasional green leaf!
Step 6: Once it is the size you want, finish as you would any other quilt- trim, hand or machine quilt and bind!
Back of flower with middle paper removed. And yes, you reuse the paper!!
Back of quilt- note there are only papers left on the edges
Well, there you have it! I hope you enjoy putting yours together as much I as I have! It truly is addictive- don’t say I didn’t warn you!
