Our home’s first story exterior is finished with traditional lime plaster. Traditional Natural Plaster Company applied the first of three layers or “scratch coat” directly to the Durisol walls with trowels and lightly misted them with water. The first coat cured about 10 days and then the second stage referred to as the “brown coat” was applied. Damp weather is the best time to apply plaster because it allows the mixture to dry slowly, which prevents cracking. However, it is important that the plaster does not freeze while it is curing or it may crack and flake off the surface. Lime plaster has been used for centuries, is non toxic and will weather well with minimal maintenance. To learn more about natural plaster finishes check out the Traditional Natural Plaster website.
