We placed our home in the same location as the former land owner’s dilapidated mobile home, which minimized site disturbance and allowed us to utilize pre existing utility and septic connections. Unfortunately, we were unable to reuse the trailer in another location because over the years it had developed severe mold, dry rot and rodent infestation issues so it was virtually uninhabitable. It was also not a good candidate for total deconstruction and recycling because mobile homes are constructed with many un-recyclable, non-biodegradable laminated materials that are almost impossible to separate from one another. Bill Kleemann owner of Ecologic Excavation separated salvageable and recyclable materials, which included saving the frame and moving the carport to a new location.
In order to protect tree roots and native vegetation from damage, Green Hammer Construction set up preservation zones and ran caution tape through sensitive areas of the site. The home’s footprint is virtually surrounded by several mature trees and a thickly vegetated natural depression, which gets soggy in the winter. Bill had to be very careful to grade and pack down the site so that his equipment did not get stuck. At the same time, he took care not to damage the existing root zones.
