Late May 2006 - Brown Pelicans and gulls come in Large Numbers to Sands Beach

May 25 -28, 2006

The coastal dunes at Coal Oil Point Reserve have a large population of Brown Pelicans and gulls visiting. The Snowy Plovers that nest there experienced the loss of some of their nesting area and eggs. There have been high tides and strong winds out in the ocean. Some plover chicks were still around and I observed one nesting. There is time to raise more families.

On Sunday while surfing at  Sands hundreds of Pelicans were fishing.  I felt like I was in a vortex of birds.
