The Heart of Stone: A Graphic Novel was my thesis project in the Masters of Fine Art Illustration program at the Academy of Art University. “The Heart Of Stone” is based on “A Fratricide” by Franz Kafka and influenced by my own experiences. The Kafka story involves Pallas who from his window chooses to watch a crazed man with a knife kill another man.  In the process of creating the project I explored how I have ‘witnessed’ death both personally and through mass media. This developed a modern framework for my story “The Heart of Stone.” The lead character of the modern arc of the story is Carl who grapples with his own demons as he works on the set designs for a theatrical production of a “A Fratricide.”
