BANK
2006+ Got extra winter gear laying around? We thought so...

THE FIRST GEAR BANK LAUNCH PARTY...
was a huge success. On December 9th, 2006, we gathered over 250 items of gear and warm clothing from some 150 guests, including dozens of items of the highest quality outdoor apparel which have been distributed to shelters around the city. Thank you to everyone who came and helped.
What is the GEAR BANK? It’s simple. We take that gear you don’t use—that shell you replaced, that puffy that’s oh-so--last winter—and give it to someone who really needs it. This December, the GEAR BANK will throw another big ‘ol party in Brooklyn to continue the project.

Bring one or more items of cold-weather outdoor gear (in clean, good condition) to get in. That, or $20. We’ll be distributing your donations to New York’s homeless population—which now numbers over 37,000 adults and children—with the help of NY Cares and the Salvation Army. This could be a good warm fleece, down jacket, sleeping bag, vest, hat, gloves, long johns, ski pants—even a tent.

The GEAR BANK is not-for-profit. If it's a success, who knows, it might be worth making an annual event. If you’d like to support us, or volunteer, please, get in touch.  If you think this is a good idea, please help spread the word around. The more the better.
