Everyday Oppression:
Untouchability in Gujarat, 2005-2008
In an effort to understand what discriminatory activity untouchables are subject to, our project set out to investigate the problem directly. Specifically, we are engaging in a census of untouchability practices of untouchables themselves in 3100 villages in Gujarat India (administered at community and household levels). These are the villages that Navsarjan Trust works in. Accordingly, this is one of the most comprehensive investigations of the topic yet undertaken.
On this webpage, you will find the census form; this document has been developed over a 25-year period and refined over the last two years. In addition to this, you will find background reports concerning the issue of untouchability as well as other relevant information.
