Christelle Fischer-Bovet
Ph. D., Classics, Stanford University, 2008
I am currently working on a research project on ethnicity in the ancient Eastern Mediterranean at the University of California, Berkeley, as a Post-Doctoral Fellow of the Swiss National Science Foundation (SNSF). I am affiliated with the Center for the Tebtunis Papyri at the Bancroft Library and the department of Classics. I received my Ph.D in Classics from Stanford University (2008) and my License ès Lettres (BA) at the University of Neuchâtel, Switzerland (2001) in History, Greek, and French. My interests are in Hellenistic History, Greek and Roman Egypt, Papyrology and Epigraphy, and Ancient Historiography.
I grew up in the French part of Switzerland, in a village near Neuchâtel that is well known to archaeologists because it gave its name to the late Iron Age in Central Europe, La Tène culture. Before coming to the States, I worked as a research assistant for the SNSF, participating in the making of the online catalogue of the Geneva papyri with Prof. P.Schubert. While a graduate student at Stanford, I also worked for a similar project in the States, APIS, the Advanced Papyrological Information System, and prepared the catalogue of the Greek papyri of both the Classics department and the Stanford libraries.
