This geometric logo came fourth in the SVG Logo Design Contest.
The purpose of this design is to incorporate the essence of scalability by increasing the size of each successive shape (and the distance between each shape) by a constant ratio. In this case, the acronym consists of three letters, so the ratio that was chosen is based on the equilateral triangle and the proportion root-three (square root of three). This proportion is automatically generated by nesting these triangles within themselves (see below).
The final design is intended to convey the feeling of solidity, perspective and uniform growth that underlies the W3C's charge to lead the web to its full potential.
Of the two entries I submitted, I had high hopes that the following logo would win a place. It was also based on the root-three proportion.
