Sue also likes to experiment with other techniques such as acid etching to get frosted effects and sand blasting to allow delicate patterns to be cut into the glass such as lettering.
About Garden City Glass
Sue now works on individual commissions producing glass works ranging from period styled doors and windows for houses in conservation areas, to modern pieces. Sue particularly enjoys working with customers to produce designs that suit the history or style of a particular location, or that reflect the personal interests of the recipient.
Garden City Glass is owned and run by Sue Bartlett, a stained glass artist, operating from her workshop in the Wiltshire village of Wilcot.

Sue has an extensive knowledge of stained glass history and design, initially gained from a long standing interest in the glass of the great churches and cathedrals of Europe. This developed into a fascination with domestic decorative glass popularised from Victorian times, then the more modern glass of the Art Deco and Art Nouveau periods. She has also studied the glass works of great artists in America such as Frank Lloyd Wright and Tiffany. Sue's current passion is for contemporary glass art designs.
Sue uses traditional leaded light and glass painting techniques, traditional materials and a wide range of glass from modern to handmade or antique. She also uses reclaimed original glass where possible - she says, "I use the original glass where I can - I like to think of fragments of history being preserved in something new".
Sue has also lectured on the subject of Victorian and Medieval Stained Glass - Theory and Practice at Reading University.

Sue is currently working on commissions for garden sculptures using glass in juxtaposition with other materials such as reclaimed wood and metals. She says "the fantastic thing about using glass outside is that you are not restricted to 2 dimensional flat designs, you can build towering blocks of year-round colour, twisting organic shapes that refract light as you move around them, or delicate metal fronds holding jewels of light that move with the wind"
