Cover story!
A Garden Walk Buffalo garden at 72 Lancaster Avenue (my street) scored a cover of a national gardening magazine. Garden Gate Magazine was in Buffalo in July, 2007 and photographed seven different gardens for future use. This garden also graced the cover of People Places Plants last spring.
There is no credit for the photo, other than the photographer, but the photo relates to a feature on “Eye-Catching Islands.” The description for the photo reads, “Pink lilies and garden phlox, white shasta daisies, red bee balm and other summer favorites combine for a classic garden border.” A detail of the cover photo fills the inside back cover of the magazine with an article about shasta daisies.
I would also add that the gardener, Alec, has chosen these plants because they are timed to bloom at the same time - all at peak the week of Garden Walk the last weekend of July! The immaculate garden is highlighted by the beautiful rose arbor entrance to the private, semi-formal courtyard area of the garden (in the background of the cover photo). The garden also includes clipped boxwood and a naturalized pond.
Inside the magazine is an article, Inviting Spaces, illustrated with a photo from another Buffalo garden on Granger Place (page 30).
The photographer is Garden Gate Magazine staff photographer, David McClure.
