I thought I had heard it all. After 101 Dalmations, I heard of the breed’s spike in popularity. I get it. Marley & Me, the book was a huge success. I heard about it from friends who were deeply touched by its sweetness, and it hit home for me as well. But today, I met a dog named Marley, who’s name was changed after her mom saw the movie! She had the dog for THREE YEARS and then saw a movie and changed her dogs name. Seriously? As we sat in disbelief in the office, I heard about the same exact thing happening to another dog recently. What is up with you people? Have you gone mad? A dog learns his or her name and expects you to use it! I mean, in the case of adoption by a new family, I understand choosing a similar name and changing it. But because of a movie? (Sigh.) I guess there’s always someone out there ready to keep me on my toes.
