Adrenal Stress Index
The ASI is a panel of 6 tests analyzed from 4 saliva samples you submit after receiving the testing kit and explanation of the process from one of our chiropractors. This test does the following in order to help our practitioners to better diagnose and treat your health concerns:
* Measures cortisol from all 4 samples to evaluate stress response and adrenal function
* Measures insulin from 2 samples to investigate blood sugar control and assess potential or real insulin resistance
* Measures DHEA (sex hormone precursor) a natural steroid prohormone produced from cholesterol by the adrenal glands, the gonads, adipose tissue, brain and in the skin, as a marker of adrenal gland ability and stress adaptation.
* Measures secretory IgA (immunoglobulin) to evaluate the toll of cortisol on immunity
* Measures 17-OH Progesterone to determine adrenal reserve (a direct test of the ability to handle stress)
* Measures Gluten Antibodies to identify grain intolerance and stressor severity
It is important to understand that:
* bound hormone levels (serum bound test)
* free hormone levels (saliva free fraction test)
* metabolized hormones (urine test)
* receptor sensitivity and cellular response (hair analysis)
...all represent different methods used by the body to maintain control and balance over its biochemical messengers as they move through the system.
