What to Expect on Your First Visit
First Chiropractic Appointment
The initial visit with the chiropractor lasts between 30 and 45 minutes. First the doctor will do a consultation including a review of the patient's history and a thorough discussion concerning the patient's complaint. Following this discussion the doctor will perform an initial chiropractic examination in order to understand the underlying causes of the patient's symptom. This will assist the doctor in formulating a treatment plan, which will be established on the following visit.
The patient will then have a Report of Findings Session (ROF) as soon as possible (usually between 24-48 hours after the initial evaluation). If the patient accepts the doctor's treatment plan, the ROF will also include the first full treatment, This appointment will last 45 minutes.
First Applied Kinesiology (AK)Appointment
The first meeting with the doctor is a consultation visit. The doctor will review the patient's health and social history plus recent complaints.
The first AK appointment will be followed with a Report of Findings (ROF) where the doctor will not only explains the possible causes of the patient's condition but will outline a treatment plan and perform an initial treatment. Treatment may vary according to the patient's condition.
AK Treatments
Depending on the treatment plan, treatment may include assessment of muscle groups to assess food sensitivities, chemical or emotional stressors, and/or nutritional deficiencies. Treatment may include the use of several different techniques including Nambudripad's Allergy Elimination Technique (NAET), Neuro-Emotional Technique (NET), Nutritional Response Testing (NRT) and/or various other Applied Kinesiology techniques. We ask that the patient dress comfortably and not wear skirts or buttoned shirts. All jewelry is removed prior to testing. The patient should be well hydrated and have had something to eat within the past 2 hours. The doctor may also ask the patient to bring in all supplements and prescriptions they are currently taking.
First Time Acupuncture Visit
On your first visit, the Acupuncturist will sit down with you to review your health history and discuss what ailments or problems you hope to alleviate or improve through Oriental Medicine and Acupuncture. He will introduce the concepts behind acupuncture and give a brief demonstration of technique if necessary. Similar to human hair the needles are very thin and painless, nothing like shots administered by hypodermic needles. The first visit will primarily be used to assess the health situation and to formulate a treatment protocol between the patient and the Acupuncturist.
Follow up Acupuncture Treatment
The Follow up treatment with the Acupuncturist will usually last an hour and will be the first official treatment administered to the patient. The acupuncturist will place the needles according to the previously discussed health history and complaints. After placing the needles he will then stimulate them until the patient feels a tingling sensation or a slight pressure. These sensations mean that the acupuncture is working. The needles will remain in place for an allotted amount of time until the Acupuncturist removes them. Then he will often massage a certain area or areas of the body. He might also prescribe a Chinese herbal supplement to aid or facilitate the healing process.
If during the initial health screening the patient and acupuncturist decide to forgo traditional needling techniques for a treatment plan of Tuina Medical Massage, Foot reflexology, Auricular therapy or Group Setting Acupuncture, that procedure will be explained in the initial visit. Often times these therapies are substituted for traditional hour-long sessions pending time restrictions and or apprehensions surrounding needling. The Acupuncturist is trained as a primary care physician in the Oriental Medicine Methodology and therefore is adept at creating individualized treatment plans.
