Oriental Medicine

Oriental Medicine has been a primary healthcare system for thousands of years. It is concerned with the functioning of the body as a whole including the physical, mental, emotional health of the individual. Signs and symptoms are grouped into a pattern of disharmony, thus determining the cause of the imbalance and focus of the treatment. Oriental medicine not only can treat the symptoms of a disease but also focuses on treating the root cause of the illness.

Acupuncture
Acupuncture includes the application of fine-sterile needles, heat, pressure, and other treatments to certain places on the skin to cause a change in the physical functions of the body. The use of acupuncture is part of traditional Chinese medicine (TCM), a medical system that has been used for thousands of years to prevent, diagnose, and treat disease. Acupuncture may cause physical responses in the nervous system, the pituitary gland, and parts of the brain. These responses can cause the body to release proteins, hormones, and brain chemicals that control a number of body functions. It is proposed that, by these actions, acupuncture affects blood pressure and body temperature, boosts immune system activity, and causes the body's natural painkillers, such as endorphins, to be released thus naturally restoring the body to a healthy state.

Chinese Herbal Medicine
Herbology is one of the more important modalities in Oriental Medicine. After diagnosing a pattern of disharmony, a Chinese herbal formula may be prescribed. A formula may be individualized for a stronger effect, or pre-made tea pills of classical formulas may be taken to supplement the treatment and accelerate the healing process.
