West Catholic 35, Penn Charter 0

(09-05-08)

Offensive Player of the Week:

Curtis Drake (Sr. – QB)

-The Penn St. recruit just had his way with the Quaker defense to the tone of 224 passing and rushing yards. Amazingly, every one of those yards came in the first half. He rushed 6 times for 146 yards and passed for another 78 yards. Included in this was a sensational 76-yard touchdown run. Earlier he had a scintillating 67-yard scoring run erased by a penalty.

Defensive Player of the Week:

Ray Manuel (Jr. – DB)

-Manuel spearheaded the shutout performance with 11 tackles (8 solos), an interception, pass defended, and recovery of a muffed punt. His pick halted a promising initial drive by the Quakers. Later, he was beaten on a pass play, but gave chase and eventually brought down the Penn Charter receiver deep in Burr territory. His hustle and determination prevented a touchdown and allowed the Burrs’ defense to force a turnover three plays later.

Special Teams Player of the Week:

Quran Kent (Soph. – RB/DB)

-The diminutive, but speedy sophomore made two tackles on kickoffs during the first half. On offense, he also had two receptions for 20 yards.
