State Playoffs AA Semifinals

(12-05-08)

Offensive Player of the Week:

Curtis Drake (Sr. – QB)

-Drake once again played the role of the table-setter. He capped the Burrs first two drives with scoring runs (20 & 1-yard). To end the first half he connected for a 30-yard TD pass. His grand finale was a scintillating 92-yard touchdown run to ice the game. He finished with 186 yards (221 total yards) on 9 carries. Drake now has 1,527 rushing yards on the season, which is a city record for a quarterback. Congrats!

Defensive Player of the Week:

Haleem Hayward (Sr. – DB)

-With things still a bit hairy, Hayward made one of the biggest interceptions of his career. The pick halted a Crusader drive at the West 2-yard line. After his 6-yard return, Drake supplied his heroics. Hayward also registered six solo tackles in the game.  Hayward is the consummate team player and once again contributed in his own way.

Special Teams Player of the Week:

Lamont Davis (Soph. – RB)

-Davis has been a solid special team’s player all season, but tonight he was tossed into some unfamiliar territory as the Burr holder. Three times he firmly planted the ball for kicks and when one snap went awry, he calmly rolled to his right and tossed for a two-point conversion. At the time the play gave the Burrs a more comfortable sixteen-point lead.  This was Davis’ first game in this role. Kudos!
