Construction

The new school site:

Building quality infrastructure is a hefty burden in any country. How much greater this task is in Kaza!

Kaza is more than a two day journey from Delhi, the city from which we receive building supplies. Goods are trucked in on narrow dirt roads that can only be traveled during certain months of the year, as the mountainous paths turn treacherous during winter weather. Not only is the delivery of goods an issue, the cost of building is quite overwhelming. Because we want to construct a school building that can withstand the normal wear and tear of any school as well as the extreme weather conditions in Kaza, we must build a structure that is of high quality and materials.

While $100,000 dollars may seem like a large sum of money for a building in India, the reality is that many materials such as steel and wood are as expensive, if not more expensive, than they are in the USA. Bulldozers and earth-movers must be brought in over the mountain roads as well, so tasks such as leveling land have hefty price tags. These costs all add up quickly into what seems to be an impossible amount of money to come up with in the Indian Himalayas.

A Wiser World knows that when people join together to help humankind, impossible dreams become actual reality. This is the approach that we are taking with our school building project. We envision this building to become a haven for learning; filled with children who thrive intellectually and receive validation for their thoughts and creativity. We believe that this building will not simply be a school but a place of refuge for people from all over the mountain’s valley who want to make positive change in the lives of their family and community.
