The sun was setting on the sleepy Tibetan village of Kaza when Griffin and Amanda Schutt first stepped foot on its dry, Himalayan soil. The order of events that landed them there are long and unusual but once they arrived, they fell in love with the people that resided there. Amanda began volunteering at a small school called, Highlander, as a teacher-trainer and Griffin busied himself with meeting people and learning the culture. It didn't take long before they both realized that Kaza had made its mark in their hearts. The teachers were thirsty for knowledge as to how to better instruct their teachers. Their efforts were great through their resources were almost nothing and in a matter of two weeks their progression was exceptional. The school had obtained land through a generous donation but lacked the funds to build a proper school structure...Griff, with a long history of construction knew that this was a project that he could be passionate about.
The Schutts returned to the United States with promises to return to Kaza, and began to organize a network of supporters in their home country. A Wiser World (AWW) came to fruition and continues to be reliant on the donations of people who have a heart towards making a difference in parts of the world that have been forgotten by many. Through the "For a Good Kaza" project, grassroots change is happening. The aim of AWW is not to westernize the beautiful Tibetan and Indian cultures that originally called us back into Kaza, but to create resources that enable learning opportunities and critical thinking to the Himalayan Mountains. Many, many of these mountain people desire an education for their children, and for themselves but lack the money required to provide it. Others live too far out of the main village and cannot transport their children to school, especially in the harsh conditions that this mountainous region brings.
A short-term opportunity for volunteering turned into something much greater for the Schutts; a merging of two communities, American and Indian, who will be untied for a greater cause, to encourage personal expression, voice, and thought to the children of the Himalayas. We invite you to be a part of this cause today!
