scott made the magic happen in the final moments of fishing at the lake. this year, there was a decided drought in the northern department. hardly anyone reeled one in. and scott was a tee-tiny bit frustrated by his ability to catch gillions of pan fish but no big daddies.
well, all that came to an end on our last fishing expedition of our 2-week vacation. scott was out pan fishing with lexi, bagaw, and me. he’d given up on catching a northern and wasn’t even baited for one. two weeks of shad raps and trolling around the big chetac with nothing to show for it, and then he hooks and reels one in on a chicken jig with a wax worm on the hook!
i went ballistic! scott just got this big smile on his face and i could tell he was happy to have hooked one and brought him in. when scott asked the next day what my favorite part of the trip had been, this was my favorite moment. i was so excited about a stupid fish! i must’ve taken 85 pictures of that thing! :)
as for me and my fishing, i was pretty happy in that regard as well. i don’t care to fish for northerns. they’re too hard to catch and too much work. plus, i actually like to CATCH fish, not just look around for them! so i prefer pan fishing, and i got all the pan fishing i could’ve wanted these two weeks. everyone was more than willing to watch the baby or the girls so i could go out on the boat with scott. and i got to catch quite a few crappies and blue gills. it was great fun!
lexi, too, caught a gillion fish. she even learned to bait her own hook, a fact that i am very proud of. she can be girlie girl all she wants as long as she’s willing to get out of that box and do some not-so-girlie things, just like her girlie girl mom! she made me proud for sure! what a fun kid!
but my favorite fishing moment, by far, was when i saw scott’s rod bent over in half, dragging in that northern... and the smile that came over his face when he got it into the boat without it snapping his line with its teeth and getting free.
