a going home tradition

what a bummer it was to head home from birchwood and our rockin’ lake vacation! we made so many fun memories with so many fun family members that we hated to see it end. but end it must, and so we began the arduous journey back to new york from wisconsin.

20 hours said our GPS... so off we went!

and just like last year as we headed home from birchwood, an hour into the trip, lexi got sick to her stomach. and so we stopped to clean up some barf from the floor and carseat of our little cutie’s area of the car. only this time, things were much easier to handle. last year, we were rollin’ in the CRV with its fabric seats, so after a few miles of driving, we had to stop to buy some febreze to kill a little of the odor. (then every hour afterward, scott would tell me to “hit it again!” and i’d give the area another barrage of febreze! ditto for anytime we stopped and let the car warm up during a potty break or snack stop!)

well, this year, our ride has changed along with our passenger list, and the seats just happen to be leather. that is infinitely easier to clean up than fabric seating -- and there is decidedly less odor left behind! (none, actually) so this stop was a little less horrible than last year’s stop. but it did eat into our drive time for the day, killing off about an hour of time... not such a lovely thing when you’re already looking at a 20+ hour drive! :)

oh well, at least that was the only major bump in the road on the trip home! for the rest of the drive, the girls were happy... they got along great... i had food packed for meals, so we didn’t have to stop unless grant woke up hungry or someone had to go potty... we did scavenger hunts, played “20 questions”, ate snacks, read books, watched movies, and listened to books on cd. all in all, i have to say that it was a fairly uneventful drive and was actually a pretty enjoyable 25 hours of family time!
