There’s far more that defines us than a posed, staged or well-framed smiling face. We are a sum of our parts. While there are occasions for group or individual portraiture, my preference is to treat my camera the same as I do my paintbrush - as an instrument through which I work as an artist, but without being trendy. My obsession with ordinary details as key elements, careful awareness of setting, surroundings and composition are decisions I make with each photograph taken.
I seek to provide images about people as they genuinely are, not a fashion magazine ideal or someone else’s idea of “style”. Spontaneous and unscripted moments arise often in our lives so for me there’s a certain joy in using my camera to do more than merely notice, but document the depth of our emotions and experiences when we’re just being ourselves.
Location shoots are a favorite given the effect of natural lighting, environment and how we respond to both. My painting studio includes space for private photography sittings but for pets and young children , I find they respond better on their own turf.
Since my client work has come(so far!) by word of mouth among friends and academic acquaintances, a special thanks goes to each of you for your support and encouragement - and willingness to let me have fun too! The imagery posted here will likely change as shoots continue so check back often....work that may be affiliated with galleries and special exhibits can be seen in the “personal favorites” section.
