wintertime blues

I had all the elements this year. An impressive 30 x 45 foot sheet of plastic, new boards, even a new laser level. It takes a lot of effort to put together a good backyard rink. I enlisted a couple of volunteers to help flood & maintain. I look forward to cold crisp nights and putting on all those layers. I love looking up at Orion floating up above on a clear evening while I haul the hose out for a flood. And when it all comes together, and the kids are skating and screaming and shooting the puck... well, that’s pure magic. That’s when I love winter.

One small problem. Winter never showed up this year. We had a week in December, a couple of days in January and now a bit in February. Everything melted in between. Green grass. In January? So I am stuck with a big ugly mess in my backyard.

Here’s a few of my favourite shots of the backyard from years past.

Raineth drop and staineth slop,
And how the wind doth ramm!
