After retirement from teaching Chemistry, Bruce McCartney did research into his own family tree.  After meeting Brenda Morrison who was also ancestor-chasing, they have produced several booklets and a CD of interest to researchers in Eskdale.

Bruce has also written and published “The Railway to Langholm” and published Billy Young’s much-acclaimed  “A Spot Supremely Blest”. (Both books are regrettably now sold-out - but try eBay or www.abebooks.co.uk.)

Being prepared at present (June 2009) is a book about the much lamented closed railway, the Waverley Route from Edinburgh through the Borders to Carlisle.  Bruce used the line for many years and the forth-coming book -  A Waverley Route Scrapbook - will be a collection of memories, photographs and anecdotes.  If you have any special memories, it’s not too late to get in touch and perhaps have YOUR tale included!
