Why yes I do answer these calls. The 800 Service, Unknown, and even then ones that come in with the ID of a marketing company.

I don’t know why?

I little is because I feel for the people on the other end of the line. The ones who are probably making below minimum wage, but are at least working. The ones who hate their jobs, but do it because it’s a job. And yes, even for the ones who think they are great at getting people to buy things they don’t need, don’t want, and will probably regret taking their call.

The call that we get most frequently is from phone service companies. Specifically calling the “Bartolome” residence because it is a Filipino last name. I absolutely love telling the callers that I don’t make any calls to the Philippines. Nope. Not one. No one there to call. And yes, I am a Filipina. They are incredulous. How can this be? Am I sure?

The other call I love to take are for radio station surveys. The thing is, because of the kids, I don’t listen to the radio very much. With three children under the age of eight, there are a lot of words and topics I don’t think I need to explain to them just yet.

Instead, I have children’s songs, book recordings, voice lessons exercises, and if, we want to the listen to the radio, I’ll have a Christian radio station on because I think at least that should be uplifting and positive (just a note here, they sometimes are lax in their conversation).

Well, this is also something the callers seem to not be able to grasp. No radio? How can that be possible? “Do I at least know of what station I might want to listen to” they’ll ask. Nope. Sorry. Not interested. Get my news online. Get my music online. I can just picture them scanning their sheet, trying to figure out which question to jump to. Usually they end the call in frustration.

I guess, that’s it.

Maybe I just need to be around people more than what I am.

I get a perverse joy frustrating others.

Although I did enjoying hearing those four calls from the Chelsea, Hilary, and two from Dan during the Democratic Caucus. Thank you for thinking of me. I really enjoyed those recorded messages. Sorry, though, last I checked I was still registered as a Republican.
