4:22 Over the past six years Richard Rhodes has painted the local sky space above where he lives in Toronto. For the fifth installment of the River Grand Chronicles series, Rhodes embarked on a yearlong focus on the vast and nuanced skies above the Grand River, from its source north of Shelburne to its mouth at Lake Erie. The River Grand Chronicles series presents projects with a strong connection to the Grand River and the regions it winds through. As with other KW|AG programming series, the River Grand Chronicles remind our viewers to consider how stories, be they fictional or true, have resonance beyond geographic boundaries. A print and online publication featuring an essay by John Bentley Mays will be produced in concert with the exhibition.

Richard Rhodes is the editor of Canadian Art magazine and a longtime writer on contemporary art. Together with Dyan Marie, he founded C Magazine in 1983. In 2005 Rhodes’ paintings were included in the 2005 exhibition Weathervane, curated by Karen Love.  His work has shown at Dyan Marie Projects in Toronto and Galerie René Blouin in Montreal.
