Last Thursday, we took the best day trip ever: we went to Mt. St. Helens. It was only about two hours away, and definitely trumped our visits to Mt. Hood and the Coast (though we had fun on those trips, too!). We were fortunate and had beautiful, cool weather, even though we had to drive through thick fog on the way. We hiked nearby Johnston Observatory, and will probably return to the southside of the volcano to check out Ape Cave and the lava valley. The views were amazing!! And it was SO quiet and there were so few people around.... a truly relaxing day.

Behind me you can see the valley, still pretty devoid of life after 28 years

Tree trunks, still left behind from the blast

A quick video to show you the landscape!

Mount Saint Helens: An Excellent Day Trip
