You may have noticed that I never update this blog. Well, from now on, that will change. I’m starting a little initiative I found on the web called the Day Zero Project, which encourages participants to list 101 things that they’d like to accomplish in 1001 days (about 2.75 years). It was very fun to put together my list, which I will post in an upcoming entry. #55 on my list is “Blog Weekly.” And that is why you will be reading more about our lives!
A quick update of the last few months:
In November, we celebrated election night with our good friend Katherine at her place; we then walked down to the McMenamin’s Tavern and Pool on 23rd to wish our friends Joel Haugen and Sarah T. congratulations on a campaign well run! Joel ran for Congress and gained notoriety in the international press as a Republican who supports Obama.
Luna continued to give us all the benefits of having a toddler who can’t talk: she discovered the toilet paper roll.
We did a bit more exploration of the various neighborhoods in Portland and really enjoyed our excursion to the North Mississippi area. We bought hardware for our refinished dresser for 50 cents a pull at the ReBuilding Center and strolled up and down N. Mississippi checking out the businesses and the houses that are still very affordable.
This is the John Palmer House, recently purchased (not by us) and being refurbished:
At the end of November, we headed over to the Kennedy School for Thanksgiving dinner! Held in the old gymnasium, the dinner was very yummy and kept our kitchen clean. It made for a relaxing day!
With November come and gone, it was time to turn our house into a cookie factory. I made too many cookies and swore I would never do it again.... until I handed out the plates to happy and appreciative recipients and thought, “Well, that wasn’t that bad!”
Luna even tried to get in on the fun:
Here are some unnecessary but cute pictures of Lady Luna Belle:
Before we left for Boston for Christmas, Portland was assaulted by snow. We weren’t personally phased, but Portland pretty much shut down - they never see a foot of snow here!
The old Mann home, now an ashram (this is right across the street from us):
We were relieved that we were able to fly out of PDX on December 23rd for a week’s stay back east. We returned right before New Year’s, and we were joined by the lovely Tree D. for a few days! Theresa cooked up an exciting storm while she was here - barbeque salmon with mango salsa and goulash among other meals - and Dwane rocked out the BEST STEAK EVER!!! (Since the snow had melted away, he could grill the meat to perfection in our back yard.)
January went by pretty quickly. I am really enjoying my job, and we had a few heavy weeks in a row of some great music. The January weather, in general, was unseasonably nice, though now it seems that in February we’re back to the long grey drizzly days Portland is known for.
More soon, because I am definitely going to be updating this weekly!
