Wonderfully obvious

The majority of members at African Community United Methodist Church are natives of Africa (mainly from Ghana) and they worship at another United Methodist Church on Sunday afternoons in the Logan Square neighborhood of Chicago.  I had heard about this joyous service, but had never attended and I thought this might be an interesting experience for our confirmation class, not only to experience a different style of worship, but also as a great example of our denomination’s worldwide connection.
The service was a fascinating blend of African and traditional United Methodist music and liturgy.  Those in attendance eagerly praised God and showed us exuberant hospitality.  I think our youth enjoyed it as well (though they did comment that, at two hours, it was a little long) and one of them commented that it was “wonderfully obvious” that they believed in God.
I really like that phrase.  Wonderfully obvious.  It made me think about whether I have a wonderfully obvious faith.  The nature of my vocation probably makes it clear that I have faith.  Even an obvious faith.  But wonderfully obvious?  Does my faith sing and soar or does it slump and slouch?  I suppose we all have moments of slumping and slouching, but I pray to be bold enough so that another young teen will tell me that my faith is also wonderfully obvious.
