LET’S DO IT - It’s More Than A Title - It’s Our Plan

“Let’s Do It” is not only the title of that memorable Cole Porter song released the year our students decided to go into show biz, but it’s also our philosophy.  There are many ways to make a film and our team has experienced most of them first-hand in all different capacities.  We’re all experienced enough to believe passionately that this film can, and should, be made.  We believe.

Before going further, though, we need to make it clear that we’re not a public offering, and we’re not asking for your money.  We are raising our funds from “qualified investors” but you don’t need to worry about that.

This site is about the idea that the first student film ever is a story worth telling... on film.

Having said that, we are far along in the process.  We have a production draft that’s in pretty fine shape, an up-and-running LLC, Talking Ed Productions.  We’ve become signatory to the WGA, hired a line producer to budget our script and create a shooting schedule, hired lawyers to make deals, and even brought aboard a highly-experienced studio casting director to help us find our lead.  We have been to Oregon to scout locations, have specific estimates of the rebates we qualify for, and have reached out within the Oregon production community to be ready to use local talent whenever possible.

Most of us have an Oregon connection.  Bryce Zabel is a native Oregonian who first heard about “Ed’s Co-Ed” when he attended the University of Oregon. He and his wife Jackie wrote the current script (coming off a 2008 screenwriting win from the Writers Guild of America) and it will be Bryce’s feature directing debut although he’s been in the Directors Guild of America since the 80s.  Bill Swindells, the former chairman of the University of Oregon Foundation, will executive produce.

We expect to be the little film that could.  There is great heart in this story, some universal themes about self-esteem and some roles that significant Hollywood stars will want to have.  There’s even a cameo for a larger-than-life Cecil B. DeMille in the prime of his career that we know will attract a big name.

We hope you’ll put out a good thought as we put it all together and, when the time comes, buy a couple of tickets on opening weekend.

See you at the movies!  Thanks!
