These collages are created using a series of close up photographs, re-combined to create a whole. Similar to David Hockney, but here I am using a cell phone to create the initial image. The auto-color and auto-level features of the cell phone gives interesting results based on the amount of light that is in each photograph, and patterns begin to form as a whole, depending on where the light is hitting the subject and where the shadows fall. Additionally, I use a grid marked off on a piece of plexiglass when taking the photographs, and recombine the images according to that grid, thus removing any artistic decision from the re-combination process.
These last two images were created using a taller grid structure, so that I was able to capture the entire figure in the frame. In these collages a total of 70 images were used to recreate the figures.
