After School Enrichment Classes
 
The Burbank After School Enrichment Classes (BASEC) is sponsored by the PTA and operated in conjunction with the Burbank After School Program (BASP).  The classes are open to all Burbank students.  Ellen McEllin directs the Burbank After School Enrichment Classes and can be reached at emcbasec@aol.com.  We run three sessions of classes during the school year. Look for enrollment forms in September, January and March.
Creative Kids:
In this class for kindergarten students, the emphasis will be on creative crafts and activities.  Students will use many different materials to draw, paint and sculpt wonderful creations.
 
Crafts and More:
The students will learn basic hand sewing techniques, painting, applique’, drawing and more while creating a variety of projects.  This class is open to students in grades 3 and 4 this session.
Games Club:
Students will participate in a variety of games, activities and challenges.  The class will focus on FUN through socialization and teamwork.  This class is open to students in grades 1 and 2.
 
Kempo Karate:
Focus, concentration, respect and courtesy are stressed in this program taught by Sensei Craig of Craig’s Kempo Karate Academy of Watertown.  The exercise and physical fundamentals are challenging and a fun way for kids to gain flexibility, balance and strength.  This program is open to both returning and new students in grades 1-4.
 
 
 
Kids Just Want to Have Fun:
Students will enjoy this high-energy class of music, movement, dancing and cool crafts.  This class is open to students in grades 3 and 4.
 
 
Mixed Media Art:
This class will use many different materials including wire, paper mache, clay and more to create wonderful 3-D art.  This class is for students in grades 1 and 2.
 
Multicultural Art:
Students will learn about and create different art projects from many different countries and cultures from around the world.  This class is open to students in kindergarten and grade 1.
Rhythm and Percussion:        
This creative class will introduce various types of rhythms, beats and percussion instruments to students in an exciting, hands-on way.  This class is open to students in grades 2 through 4.  
 
 
 
 
Scrapbooking:
Do you have a lot of photos, ticket stubs or memorabilia from a special place or event just sitting in boxes or drawers?  This class will help students organize and arrange these items into uniquely decorated pages to begin a creative scrapbook of their very own. This class is for students in grades 3 and 4.
Science Club:
This class will be a fun-filled learning journey into the world of physical science.  Students will be lead through a series of simple experiments designed to increase their understanding of some of the laws that shape our physical world.  This class is open to curious thinkers in grades 3 and 4.
 
 
 
 
 
 
Spanish Club:
Students will be fully absorbed in the Spanish language and culture while learning beginning Spanish vocabulary, singing songs, cooking and participating in games specifically related to the Mexican American culture.  This class is open to students in grades 2 through 4.
 
 
 
 
 
 
 
Sports:
Our sports classes focus on building confidence in a range of skills, being a good sport, encouraging teamwork and having FUN!  We offer three different levels of this popular class.
 
Theater:
This year the classes will be taught by Claude Rothman who has many wonderful ideas for this lively, creative program.  The classes cover stage, vocal and movement techniques combined with basic drama skills (theater games, improvisation, visualization, etc.).  These classes teach life skills such as collaboration, cooperation and team building.
French:
Students will be introduced to French culture while learning fundamental language skills and vocabulary.  Activities will include cooking, music, and geography as students are exposed to French and francophone culture in its many forms all over the world.  This class is open to students in grades 2, 3 and 4.

Animals Just Want to Have Fun:
Calling all Webkinz, Beanie Babies and small stuffed animals!  Students will be playing games and making clothes and accessories for their beloved pets.  Students can bring one favorite pet a week!  This is a hands-on creative class.  There will be no computers involved.  Mrs. MacClallen is offering three levels of this class.
