Special Topics and Advanced Trimming Clinic

Frustrated by the often illogical ideas and practices that continue to dominate traditional hoof care, Steve undertook a journey of intense study of trimming, shoeing, and movement theory from a diverse range of sources after acquiring his first horse in 1993. Certified as a natural hoof care professional by the AANHCP, he now serves as a Field Instructor and Advanced Trimming Instructor for Liberated Horsemanship. Steve also teaches full time at the Ohio State University Agricultural Technical Institute, where his classes include equine hoof care, computer applications, and computer-design. He is an award-winning musician, electronics engineer and recording engineer with numerous product designs, as well as patents and publications, to his credit.

Certain pathological conditions, such as severe laminitis, injury, and chronic imbalance, can make it very hard to identify landmarks normally used as guides for properly trimming and balancing a hoof in accordance with natural hoof care principles. This one-day clinic is designed to familiarize participants with the underlying anatomy and bio-mechanical theory necessary to successfully trim such extreme cases. Then, cadaver hooves are used to guide participants step-by-step through the processes of identifying, evaluating, and trimming abnormal hooves. Large-screen live video is utilized to provide an unobstructed view of all clinic materials. Each attendee receives a booklet containing assessment and course of action information with high-quality color photographes and radiographs of the hooves.

About the Special Topics and Advanced Trimming Clinic

The Special Topics and Advanced Trimming Clinic (STAT) in October will be held simultaneously with the Gateway Clinics. The STAT will be held in the Lion's Club Building at the Warren County Fairgrounds, just outside Warrenton, Missouri. To get to the Lion's Club Building go north 2.0 miles on State Highway 47 from I-70. Turn left onto Warren County Fairgrounds Road. The fairgrounds and the entrance is four tenths of a mile on your right. After you enter the fairgrounds, the Lion's Club Building is the first building on your left; it's a brown building with stone.
