You see, after awhile it just became too much.  I mean, it would for anyone, right?  I had to have my own Coraline Mystery Box.  And if there just weren’t any more to go around, well then, I’d make my own.

This box is number 51 of 50.  It’s called “Dear Henry”.  My wife asked me how I could make a mystery box since I hadn’t yet seen the movie.  But the more I thought about it, the original mystery boxes were to bloggers who hadn’t seen the film, from the filmmakers.  So this is like that, only backwards.  It’s from someone who hasn’t seen the film, and written as a love letter to them.

Really cool
Nice.
Here’s the full text of the letter. Written in the style of the ones in the other mystery boxes.

DEAR HENRY,

SINCE ANCIENT TIMES, STRANGERS WHO WATCH FEATURE FILMS HAVE MADE MYSTERIOUS ITEMS TO SHOW THEY HAVE CONNECTED OVER A MUTUAL INTEREST AND COME TO LOVE EACH OTHER.

INSIDE THIS OLD BOX IS A ONE-OF-A-KIND COLLECTION I’VE AMASSED AND CATALOGED WITH YOU AND YOUR FILM IN MIND.

THE PLAIN TRUTH OF THE MATTER IS, I AM PRETTY OBSESSED WITH MYSTERIOUS STORYTELLING. LIKE YOU. THAT’S WHY I ADMIRE THE FOLKS AT LAIKA. I SERIOUSLY DIG THE PASSION AND THE COMMITMENT, AS WELL AS THE ARTISTRY TO DO WHAT YOU DO AND MAKE SURE THAT EVERY SINGLE ASPECT OF IT, FROM THE FILM, TO THE MAKING-OFS, TO THE BOXES, SPEAKS OF MYSTERY AND THE FULL DEPTH AND RICHNESS OF THE WORLD YOU MADE. IT’S TOUGH OUT THERE FOR CREATIVE PEOPLE WHO YEARN TO MAKE THINGS, IN A WORLD RUN ON BUYING AND SELLING, ESPECIALLY THE SELLING OF MORE AND MORE EXOTIC FORMS OF DEBT. REAL THINGS ARE HARDLY WORTH ANYTHING ANYMORE. AND THE PEOPLE WHO MAKE THEM SEEM TO MATTER EVEN LESS.

YOU MADE A MOVIE. HOW REFRESHING. AND YOU MADE IT WITH REAL THINGS. HOW INNOVATIVE!

PLEASE KEEP UP THE SUPER WORK. I’LL BE WATCHING, FIRST SCREENING FRIDAY MORNING. THANK YOU FOR YOUR TIME, AND HELLO.

SINCERELY,
BRUCE WRIGHT
