YOGA
Chair Yoga is a combination of yoga poses and breathing exercises performed while seated in a chair. Chair Yoga is ideal for seniors or anyone with chronic conditions or pain. If participants are able and interested, some exercises will be performed while walking and/or standing and balancing while holding onto the chair.
Gentle Yin Yoga is for those students challenged with health or physical limitations or simply wanting a relaxing approach to yoga. It focuses on helping participants increase range of motion, improve posture, restore flexibility, and increase breath capacity while protecting injured or chronically painful joints.
Yoga for Kids is a fun-filled romp of yoga interlaced with stories, songs, and quiet time for budding yogis and yoginis. Simple movements and games help children grow strong and flexible. The objectives of Yoga for Kids are to promote self-discipline, improve ability to focus, exercise the physical body, increase physical coordination, help right/left brain coordination, increase physical and emotional awareness, increase self-confidence, encourage spiritual awareness, and just have fun.
Kundalini Yoga is an ancient science using exercise, breath work, mantras, and meditation to create vitality in the body, balance in the mind, and openness to the spirit. Using a wide range of rhythmic, sequential exercises, students learn how to relax and become more focused. Kundalini Yoga helps train the mind to be calm, clear and flexible in the face of stress and change. Kundalini Yoga can be enjoyed by everyone, regardless of his/her age or physical ability.
MEDITATION
Meditation is the creative control of the self. In this class, participants learn to be more focused on the present and reshape habitual reactions of the mind. The practice of meditation cultivates qualities such as clarity, tranquility, and improved concentration. Meditation has also been shown to reduce tension, promote relaxation, alleviate chronic pain, and improve overall well-being. Several techniques are offered in this Meditation class, including Kundalini yoga meditation, Pranayama meditation, Zen meditation, Walking meditation, as well as Qi Gong and Mindful Movements.
Mindful Eating – The Path to Greater Health, Peace and Joy - Make the act of eating a pleasure that brings you greater Health, Peace, and Joy — experience how delicious healthy food can taste while exploring the spirituality of food. Using the techniques of deep breathing, Qi Gong and yoga exercises, we will release the stress accumulated during the day, and will then deepen our relationship with food by eating mindfully in silence. Mindful Eating gives us tools to free ourselves from food obsessions, cravings, and under- or overeating. This class is also for anyone who just wants to explore the experience of eating joyfully.
Mindful Movements - Developed by Zen Master Thich Nhat Hanh, the exercises combine simple stretching and graceful gestures with mindfulness meditation. Mindfulness has the power to sustain and heal us in every aspect of our life. With Mindful Movements, we have within reach a practical way to bring our mind and body into "perfect oneness."
GENERAL FITNESS
Fitness Walking is moderate to brisk walking that can challenge the cardio-respiratory system. In addition to every benefit of aerobic exercise, Fitness Walking increases vitality, and improves moods and mental clarity. It is an inexpensive, convenient and simple activity to perform with minimal risk for injury.
Flex and Strength is a blend of basic yoga postures with specially designed exercises to increase strength and flexibility, improve posture and develop better breathing patterns. Flex and Strength enhances the ability to do any type of physical activity (i.e., tennis, running or jogging, dance, weight training) by moving more efficiently and becoming more aware.
Qi Gong is an ancient Chinese system of exercise and meditation that calms the mind and spirit, improves performance in sports, cultivates health and well-being, and promotes long life. Qi Gong also increases artistic sensitivity and expressiveness. Qi Gong makes use of breathing and energy exercises that promote free flow of energy (Qi) in the body. Generally less physically demanding than Tai Chi, Qi Gong consists of breathing exercises with movement, stretching, self-massage, and quiet. Qi Gong is practiced in a standing position.
STRESS MANAGEMENT
Stress Management - Stress is the physical, emotional or psychological strain we experience as we adjust to our continually changing environment. Certain events can bring a great deal of stress into our lives. From stressful jobs to natural disasters to illness, everyone experiences stress. Learn how to manage it and avoid burnout. Using the practices of Qi Gong, yoga, meditation, breathing techniques, and the experiential process, we will learn not only how to release stress but also how to stay centered and calm in the midst of difficult situations. This class is ideal for anyone seeking more peace and balance in their lives, or for those struggling with daily stress and other anxiety related issues.
