Axel was born on September 18, 2006 at 5:34am on a Monday. He weighed five pounds and three ounces at birth and spent a few days in the NICU before coming home with us on the 21st.

His first name is a German word meaning “small oak”. His middle name is “Tain”, the Gaelic word for “stream”. Tain is also the nickname of our favorite jazz drummer, Jeff Watts.

Axel is a dog and, as his Aunt Kim pointed out, he is just barely a Virgo.
