About Me
My formal training is as an Electrical Engineer, and I have worked in that field since 1992. My areas of expertise are analog circuit design - with a focus in phase lock loops and adaptive equalizers, primarily for Ethernet applications - and digital ASIC design for internet routers. I have always enjoyed innovation, and accumulated 18 patents over the years I have worked in the industry. More recently, I have been applying that same level of innovation to developing a strategy for successful investing.
My interest in investing began in 2001, when I saw the value of my stock options fall by 90% over the course of the year. Having learned the hard way that stocks do not always go up in price, I began to educate myself, starting with modern portfolio theory, but then moving on to value investing and behavioral economics. This last subject explained a lot of what happened in the late 90’s. I also gave myself a strong education in corporate accounting, including oft used methods of inflating a company’s financial performance. In the end, I came to the conclusion that I could get the best investing results by focusing on just a few of the best companies, as stated in our investment philosophy. So far, the results have been satisfactory, and to date, our companies are performing well during the global recession.
