The Community and Peace history of you
Monday January 22, 2007
(Arts Block Period 2:00 – 4:15) 

Description:  Through yoga poses, questionnaires, and drawing exercises, collaborators will reflect on and act out community and peace.  Participants will use prepared polyester self-portraits crafted over the weekend for homework to create larger renderings on mirrored sheets of paper.  Inspired by what they wrote on rubrics in the first workshop, students will create portraits that share their own stories about community and peace.  

Aims:		A.) Utilize a questionnaire to reflect on the past, present, and future
		D.) Explore new art media
		E.) Practice new drawing techniques
G.) Practice Mindfulness – which is the practice of peace.

Theme:	The Community and Peace history of you
 
Materials:	Mirrored Paper sheets				        Paint Pens
	Community and Peace Questionnaire		Overhead projectors
	Digital camera to document	
					
Methods:	A.) Yoga – Tadasana, Sun Salutations, and Tree pose	30 minutes
B.) Peer Review Prepared Polyester drawings		          5 minutes
D.) Introduce Peace and Community questionnaire 		  5 minutes
E.) Introduce Projection process 				          5 minutes
	1.) Briefly describe overhead techniques
	2.) Introduce idea of composition – on mirror and for final piece 
	3.) Introduce text in preparation for adding “community” quote
F.) Divide participants into groups equal to overhead projectors
G.) Project works and color	  				        80 minutes
	1.) Remind everyone about text from ending evaluation
2.) Distribute only black paint pens for projection 
3.) Remind everyone to be mindful/slow- and more time tomorrow
	4.) Trade Paint Pens for questionnaire and completed Projection
H.) Ending Reflection						        10 minutes

Homework:  Using colored paint pens, color self-portraits on mirrored paper so that parts of the reflection shows through. Also include your definition of “community” that you wrote on the first day of class on the rubric and the beginning assessment sheet.
